Tanzania Hotels and Resorts - Although a Tanzanian gorge recently yielded a few bits of our old mate, Homo erectus, little is known about the country's really early history. Recorded history begins around 1800, when the Maasai warrior tribes were migrating from Kenya to Tanzania. While the country's coastal area had long witnessed maritime squabbles between Portuguese and Arabic traders, it wasn't until the middle of the 18th century that Arab traders and slaves dared venture into Maasai territory in the country's wild interior. European explorers began arriving in earnest in the mid-19th century, the most famous being Stanley and Livingstone. The famous phrase 'Dr Livingstone, I presume', stems from the duo's meeting at Ujiji on Lake Tanganyika.

HOTEL FACILITIES & SERVICES:
RESTAURANTS Amani has two restaurants. The Amani Restaurant is situated in the main building where breakfast and dinner is served. The view opens to a lawn with palms and mango trees. We take pride in our cuisine with blends of exotic East African flavours. From this restaurant we serve breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is a choice of continental or full English. Pre-dinner drinks are served in the bar or lounge attached to the dining room. A four course dinner is served in a romantic candlelight setting under the stars (weather permitting) or under the Makuti roof.

THE MAWIMBI BEACH BAR & RESTAURANT Enjoy a cool cocktail with the sounds and gentle breeze from the ocean. Lunch is served al-fresco so you do not have to move too far away from the comfort of the swimming pool and beach. Again fresh catch of the day, salads with a choice of Mediterranean flavours including vegetables and herbs from our own nursery.

ACTIVITIES Swimming in the large pool beside the sandy beach, tennis, petanque, volley ball, snorkeling, wind surfing or just catching a wave with a boogie board. Pass the day by walking the long stretch of deserted beach or strolling through the tropical gardens to our cliff, it's an enjoyable and relaxing way of enjoying nature. There are three species of monkeys and baboons to be seen and many species of birds. We recommend these walks in the early morning or late evening. Riding can be arranged with the local Horse Club. A beach ride, romantic trail or adventure through the bush passing through the local village, enjoying the ambiance of the real Africa.
